From Detroit Business Journal:
The Dallas-based barbecue restaurant chain Dickey’s Barbecue Pit Inc. will expand its presence in Michigan with the opening of restaurants in Sterling Heights and Auburn Hills by the end of the year.
Franchise owners and operators Ed and Carrie Wenzel, who recently became the new owners of the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit restaurant in Macomb Township, plan to open the location in Sterling Heights by the summer, and the eatery in Auburn Hills by the end of the year. The exact locations of the restaurants has yet to be announced.
Founded in 1941, Dickey’s offers a variety of meats by the half pound that are smoked in wood-burning pits. Selections include pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, barbecue hony ham, and jalapeno cheddar kielbasa.
Other offerings include sandwiches — big barbecue, westerner, and lil’ hoagie — and sides such as Asiago cheese creamed spinach, macaroni and cheese, waffle iron fries, cabbage slaw, and bacon and onion green beans.
In metro Detroit, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has restaurants in Ferndale, Clinton Township, and Rochester Hills. Most locations offer catering services.
“We currently have seven Dickey's locations in Michigan and look forward to further expanding in the region,” says Roland Dickey Jr., CEO of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened its first restaurant in Michigan in Troy in 2011. The fast-casual concept has restaurants in more than 540 locations in 43 states.
