Thanksgiving is here! As thousands of people eagerly await their selected pickup or delivery times, we wanted to use this opportunity to share our 2023 Holiday Heating Instructions. Of the more exciting changes, this year we've transformed our turkey from Cajun fried to Cajun spiced and it now comes as a raw product! By embracing this change, we've chosen safety, health, and sustainability. The turkeys really have a lot more flavor than in the past and we are excited to put out a higher quality bird. ast Saturday,  Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and Dallas Maverick’s star PJ Washinton partnered up to treat basketball fans from across the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex to a one of a kind smokin’ event!

With over 400+ people in attendance at Dickey’s original location in Dallas, guests lined up early to receive autographs and pictures from the guest of honor. Dickey’s sold a dine in record of 146 lbs of brisket and 79 pounds of kielbasa-style polish sausage in three hours during the event. These lucky fans also had an opportunity to enjoy the hickory-smoked taste of Dickey’s Legit. Texas. Barbecue., as well as the limited time offer of Dickey’s Mavs and Cheese kielbasa sausage, all to the sounds of a Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket live broadcast, as well as a DJ providing tunes that keep the crowd pumped up.

To keep the fans cool, the Dickey's team provided free water and sausage samples to guests while they patiently waited to meet the Maverick’s star who stayed until every guest in line was taken care of. Dickey’s outside bar was the perfect setting for fans to unwind, socialize and responsibly sample The Dickey Foundation and Panther Island Brewery’s signature Legit. Texas. Lager. Additional partnering vendors at the event were Red Bull, Sazerac, and Modelo.

As guests shift more and more to online ordering, curb side pick up and delivery, it was a nostalgic return to a very full dining room of customers. The PJ Washington signing event shows that while folks enjoy off premise dining and respond to promotions like Free Delivery on dickeys.com orders, diners will still turn out for the right partnership in person.

### When was barbecue invented?
The history of this succulent sauce is believed to go back as far as the 1800’s with the Native American tribes of the South and East. There’s also traces of similar sauces found across the Caribbean and Africa, so there are plenty of folks to thank for what we have today. Later in history, vinegar was introduced as an ingredient along with other spices like salt and mustard, creating one of the first modern versions of the sauce that we know today. Around the early to mid-1900’s, ketchup, sugar, and Worcestershire sauce became common ingredients for a more complex sauce with even bigger flavors.

 Dickey’s Barbecue Pit became a heavy player in the sauce game almost as soon as we opened our doors in 1941. After three years, two fist-fights, and one small kitchen fire, the perfect complement to Legit. Texas. Barbecue. was born. We’ve printed that same motto on our very own bottles of sauce, just to show that more goes into a good sauce than vinegar and molasses. Today every different region of the U.S. has a variation of the sauce, every bit as different as the places they call home.

### Where is barbecue sauce from?
**Kansas City Style:** Widely considered the thickest of the sauces, it sits on top of meat without being absorbed. Usually made from a ketchup or tomato base, this sauce is has a sweet and tangy flavor profile. Carolina Gold Sauce: A mustard base gives this sauce its unique color and signature tangy flavor with just a hint of heat.

**Texas Style:** In Texas, beef is king, and the sauce is made to complement that hearty taste — typically served on the side. Texas Style Mop sauce is a thinner version that is brushed onto the meat while it cooks. It has a smokier flavor that may be ketchup or vinegar based and with Worcestershire sauce all melded together with slight hints of garlic.

**St. Louis: **Similar to Kansas City style, it’s made with the extra add on of cider vinegar, making the sauce slightly thinner. This ingredient adds a touch of tang along with some acidity and slightly sour flavor. This is perfect for those who like savory a little more than sweet.
