At Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, we see National Iced Tea Day as just another reason to celebrate the perfect drink for slow smoked Texas barbecue. Miss Ollie Dickey, mother of Roland and Travis Dickey, was known for her sweet southern charm and delicious sun tea made right on her front porch. Nothing tasted better on those hot southern days than Miss Ollie’s Tea and it became a Dickey family favorite.

Now, everyone can enjoy Miss Ollie's famous tea at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Miss Ollie’s Tea is full of flavor, with a crisp and captivating taste that keeps you coming back for more.  In honor of National Iced Tea Day, here are some fun facts you can use to impress your friends and coworkers:

• Tea is nearly 5,000 years old! Chinese Emperor Shen-Nung discovered tea in 2737 BC, when according to legend some tea leaves accidentally blew into the Emperor’s pot of boiling water.
• Tea is the most widely consumed drink following water
• United States cookbooks dating back as early as 1839 have recipes for iced tea with the earliest being The Kentucky Housewife 
• According to the Tea Association of the United States, approximately 85% of tea consumed in America is iced! On any given day, over 158 million Americans are drinking tea.
• The United States is responsible for the tea bag! In 1904 tea importer, Thomas Sullivan became annoyed at the high cost of the tin boxes he used to send tea samples to customers and switched to small cloth bags. One of the recipients brewed a pot of tea by simply pouring hot water over the bag — and the rest is history!
• In 2003, Georgia state representative John Noel tried to pass a house bill making it mandatory for all restaurants to serve sweet tea.
