Buffalo CBS 4: Dickey’s Barbecue Pit announces 2 locations in Buffalo

Published: 31 Mar 2016

From Buffalo CBS 4:

Two restaurant chains have expressed interest in expanding their reach to the Queen City, with Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and Chick-fil-A exploring options in the region.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit officials confirmed they’re far along in their decision to expand to Buffalo, revealing a development agreement to open two locations in Buffalo. The Texas-style barbecue chain will provide another location where Buffalo natives can enjoy sweet, southern barbecue options and meats.

The closest location Dickey’s has to offer is roughly three hours from western New York, but the first new restaurant will open by the end of 2016, with the second opening in 2017.

Locations have yet to be decided upon, but officials say owner/operator of the locations Abban Westby and Michael Mulcahy have owned restaurants in the Buffalo area before. They say the goal is creating a store with a small footprint that has a rustic look, reclaimed wood and a glass display case for meats.

“Currently, we have four locations in New York State, and we look forward to opening the two new stores in the area and expanding throughout the surrounding Northeastern states,” Roland Dickey, CEO of the chain, said in a statement.

In addition to the Texas chain, Chick-fil-A, another southern eatery is looking at the prospects of expanding to Buffalo in the near future, although there are no concrete plans for a location yet.

Chick-fil-A officials said they’re in the process of evaluating new locations and will continue to do so.

The closest Chick-fil-A is in Erie, Pennsylvania — roughly two hours from Buffalo.
