TRAVERSE CITY — Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants Inc. plans to open a Traverse City location in May 2017.
The chain operates 560 locations in 43 states, including eight in Michigan. It will add three more scattered through Kent County after the Traverse City location opens, according to a company release.
The Dallas-based chain was founded in 1941 by Travis Dickey. Roland Dickey Jr. is CEO. All meats are slow-smoked at each franchise location. The restaurants offer free kids meals on Sundays. The fast-casual restaurants offer a variety of barbecued meats and homestyle side dishes and feature a tangy barbecue sauce.
Dickey's won first place on Fast Casual's "Top 100 Movers and Shakers" list in 2016 and ranked in the top 10 of Franchise Times' "Fast and Serious."
Business partners Andre Bushnell and Loren Akerman own the four new franchise locations.
