We surprised random guests with free lunch at our locations across the Dallas metroplex. It was great to see the responses faces when they found out their lunches were on us. Our team members loved participating and giving the gift of great barbecue to our guests.

Don’t Let Traveling Hinder Your Holiday Cheer

Every year my family has a tough decision to make for the holidays and it has nothing to do with ugly sweaters and holiday movies. It’s the battle of ham versus for our holiday dinner.
Ham might seem like the obvious winner because we just finished up Thanksgiving which is basically a day dedicated to family and all things turkey. &nbsp;But, the thing is….turkey can be prepared so many ways including Cajun fried, grilled, roasted, beer-can, herb roasted, bacon wrapped or if you’re really dedicated, a Turducken - a boned chicken inside a boned duck, which is then placed inside a partially boned turkey which is pretty dang awesome and can feed a small village.
But at Dickey’s, we sure do love all our Barbecue Honey Ham. If you’re craving something on the sweeter side, ham can sure hit the spot.&nbsp; And ham is a very versatile player in the leftover category too.
Of course, your family can always have both delicious meats offered at the dinner table which is great when you need to please your savory and sweet relatives.

All employees are instructed to find a Holiday sweater to wear to the party. Anyone who doesn’t show up with a sweater will be given one of your spare sweaters, and a pair of reindeer ears or some other embarrassing prop for good measure. Decorate the room with bright and fun decorations and offer a reward for the most impressive sweater.

Santa’s Workshop

Companies small and large are going with this theme idea. For example, Delta Airlines threw a party where they took under-privileged children who’d never been on a plane before to a hangar at JFK airport where they all celebrated the season, aviation-style.
You may not be Delta Airlines, but you can still throw a great charity-themed party. Pick a charity your employees would love to support and either charge for party entrance or run an auction during the festivities. Consider allowing your employees to give their holiday bonuses partially or fully to the charity of their choice.
The company holiday party is a great chance to build team spirit as well as celebrate a year well-done.&nbsp; Deck the halls with laughter, fun, great food and the spirit of the season.&nbsp; Oh and a few ugly sweaters helps too!

Five Holiday Office Party Themes

Did you catch Dickey’s Barbecue on TNT’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tntdrama.com/shows/on-the-menu.html">‘On The Menu’</a>&nbsp;on Friday? The food competition was fierce and started with four amateur cooks battling it out to create Dickey’s Pulled Pork Barbecue Sandwiches.&nbsp; They had to get them just right with 4 oz. of pulled pork on a toasted bun topped with two slices of onion and two pickles. Following the first elimination round, the three remaining contestants created meals for Dickey’s guests which included a stuffed chicken breast, a turnip and sausage soup and a jambalaya turkey sandwich. Following guests critiques, the two remaining chefs modified their items for Mr. Dickey to taste test.
Although it was difficult decision, the judges ruled and you’ll want to stampede into your closest Dickey’s Barbecue Pit because our new item, Stampede Stew is now on the menu! The limited time menu item features a delicious Southern combination of fresh turnip greens mixed with a hearty vegetable broth, great northern beans and piled high with Dickey’s signature Polish sausage. The perfect cold weather dish is served steaming hot along with a buttery roll. You can order the new menu item as a tasty entrée or a home style side item with some of our delicious barbecue.&nbsp;

Dickey’s Barbecue TV premiere is just two days away! We are excited to be the season finale of TNT’s <a href="http://www.tntdrama.com/shows/on-the-menu.html?sr=onthemenu">On The Menu</a>! The new cooking competition show has brought some pretty awesome items to guests the very next day including Denny’s Apple Danish French Toast, Cabo Wabo’s Shrimp Enchilada Stack or Emeril’s Crab Lasagna – Yum!&nbsp; We can’t wait for you to try Dickey’s new item following our episode on Saturday, December 6.
Mr. Dickey, our Lead Chef and our PR Director flew out to LA to film the show with hosts, Ty Pennington &amp; Chef Emeril Lagasse. For the segment, we even got to turn the set into a Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Employees from Dickey’s Barbecue corporate offices joined local franchise owners in serving our guests this past holiday weekend.&nbsp; Staff fanned out in to their local communities to lend a hand, meet guests and spread holiday cheer.&nbsp; &nbsp;We hope you had a safe and happy holiday with your families and that you know just how thankful we are for our loyal barbecue fans.

All Hands on Deck for the Holidays

Throughout the year, the USDA’s Meat and Poultry Hotline answers questions about food safety from the public.&nbsp; They’re open Thanksgiving Day from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET, and it is their busiest day of year.&nbsp; Properly cooking a turkey can make even the most confident chef just a little nervous.&nbsp; The millions of first-time cooks attempting the turkey trot to the Thanksgiving table are probably a little tense too.
Common calls to the Hotline on Thanksgiving Day include “How long should I cook my turkey?” or “How many days will my macaroni and cheese last?”’. &nbsp;Every year, the Hotline gets a few extraordinary calls that I just have to write down.&nbsp; Here are a few turkey fails they’ve heard from callers over the years.&nbsp;
1.&nbsp; Lifeguard Not on Duty
Never leave your turkey by the pool unsupervised.&nbsp; A couple found a wild turkey, drowned from the night before, in their swimming pool.&nbsp; The caller asked if it could be served to their guests for dinner. Because this bird was not dressed properly immediately upon its death, it was not safe to serve.
2.&nbsp; Tumble Dry Low
Make sure you have the tools before you commit.&nbsp; One clever caller did not have a large enough container to brine his large turkey.&nbsp; So of course, the washing machine is the next best thing, right? Wrong.&nbsp; After loading the machine with the turkey, ice and brine solution, our cook forgot the bird was in there. Later the caller’s roommate put in a load of laundry, with detergent and bleach, on top of the turkey. Brining should always be done in the refrigerator in a food-grade plastic container.
3.&nbsp; What’s that Fowl Smell?
It’s true that cold water can be used to defrost frozen poultry, but one should really consider where that water comes from.&nbsp; One Thanksgiving host had a large frozen turkey and a small amount of time, so he put the turkey in the toilet and continuously flushed to allow water to run all over it. Needless to say, there could have been all kinds of bacteria on this turkey and it had to be condemned. There are three safe ways to thaw a turkey, none of which involves a toilet.

Top Thanksgiving Turkey Fails

Happy Movember! Don’t get me wrong—here at Dickey’s HQ, we’re definitely excited about Thanksgiving, but this is important too. The Movember campaign raises awareness of men’s health issues (particularly prostate cancer and testicular cancer). Ladies have pink—us - men have something a bit more permanent and…natural. That’s right, a mustache/beard. Hopefully you’re noticing more men fashioning a stash recently; raising awareness and “changing the face of men’s health.” So next time you see someone with one, please say “Happy Movember”, or even a “Good beard to you, sir”. In honor of No Shave November/Movember and supporting the cause to raise awareness of men’s health issues, I bring you the origins of this fantastic holiday along with a few “mo foods”.
The month of November in recent years has been aligned with charities that use facial hair to raise awareness for men's health.&nbsp;<a href="https://us.movember.com/about" target="_blank">Movember started in Australia</a>&nbsp;in 2003 and has grown into a global effort. To participate, men grow mustaches to spark conversation and raise money for men's health programs involving prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
<a href="https://www.no-shave.org/#!our-story/cfvg" target="_blank">No-Shave November</a>, started in 2009, encourages participants to grow hair — whether it's a beard, or a mustache — and donate the money participants would normally spend on grooming for the month to the American Cancer Society.
