  North Auburn’s growing Highway 49 business strip will have some Texas barbecue flavor to add to its expanding restaurant roster with the opening of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.
</p>

  The Dickey’s signs are now up on one of two new buildings at the Willow Creek Plaza, adjacent to Home Depot.
</p>
<p>
  Dickey’s is a privately owned chain of more than 500 franchises. Its head office is in Dallas and it’s been in business since 1941. It’s the largest barbecue chain in the United States.
</p>
<p>
  “We are excited to confirm that Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is scheduled to open in Auburn on or around February 25,” Dickey’s Public Relations Director Kimberly Harms said Monday in an e-mail message.
</p>
<p>
  The Dickey’s website states that California is second only to Texas in the number of Dickey’s restaurants.
</p>
<p>
  Georgetown’s Jerry Rose hadn’t noticed the new Dickey’s sign that had gone up on the side of a building opposite the recently opened Smart &amp; Final Extra grocery store at the Highway 49-Willow
  Creek Drive crossroads in North Auburn.
</p>
<p>
  Rose said his eatery of choice when he visits Auburn to shop is the Sierra Grill Smokehouse nearby and the idea of barbecue at Dickey’s was a new one.
</p>
<p>
  “I haven’t heard of them,” Rose said. “This is the first time I’ve been here. They’re sure building this place up.”
</p>
<p>
  As well as Dickey’s the Willow Creek Plaza and Rock Creek Plaza across Highway 49 will soon also have openings for Chipotle, Panda Express, Panera Bread and Chick-fil-A.

  Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants Inc. completely redesigned its in-store training program to incorporate a larger focus on Dickey’s core values and meet the needs of millennial learners and beyond.
  The new in-store job titles are pit boss, pit master, and pit crew, and reflect the levels of leadership and a clear path to management for workers at all levels.

  <span style="line-height: 1.42857;">The new program tossed the conventional restaurant training method that relies on textbooks and forms and implemented tools, which reach learners by using proven
  curriculum design methods such as short videos, facts without fluff, faster, and simpler training modules and an aesthetically pleasing design.</span><br>

  <span style="line-height: 1.42857;">“Dickey’s new way of training drives our core values of energy, speed and barbecue,” says Steve Hawter, senior vice president of training. “Using these new tools
  developed by our home office training team, we can focus our passion on the art of great barbecue and instill it in our pit crews nationwide. I believe this new way of training will elevate our

  For 25 years, Lee Waskom operated a textbook business which serviced university campuses in northern Louisiana. He also owned a 3,000 square-foot shopping center, with space for three tenants. He
  had one tenant leaving and one space vacant. As a franchise owner for another concept, Lee decided he would try his hand at another franchise concept. With many Mexican restaurants and
  chicken-based fast casual concepts in town, he knew he wanted something different. That’s what led him to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. All three spaces in his shopping center opened up eventually, so he

  Waskom’s store is located across the street from Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Having partnered with universities his entire career, Waskom leveraged that experience as he got
  started in the barbecue business. In discussions with the school’s athletic director, Waskom learned his large restaurant could benefit from the town’s 20,000 population with its high-protein menu
  options and TVs covering the school’s team sports on demand. Filling that need has been an excellent community engagement tool for Waskom’s Dickey’s store.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit Opens in La Quinta

  The restaurant operations field tends to be a boys’ club often times, but Dickey’s Barbecue Pit owner-operator Gina Young defies gender stereotypes as the only female in an elected position. NFAAC,
  or National Franchisee Advertising Advisory Council, is Dickey’s elected council of six owner-operators who make system-wide decisions on everything from advertising strategy to limited-time
  offers.
</p>
<p>
  Young started her barbecue career in 2012, when she opened her first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Olympia, Washington. Previously a stay-at-home mom with no restaurant experience, Young benefitted from
  the extensive training support from day one. She hired her brother Rob Williams, a volunteer firefighter, to be her general manager, and now has a very successful store.
</p>
<p>
  In 2015 Young was nominated for the position in NFAAC. Her region consists of every store on the West Coast, and every owner-operator casts a vote. She was elected by a landslide and began the
  position in September.
</p>
<p>

  The restaurant operations field tends to be a boys’ club often times, but Dickey’s Barbecue Pit Owner / Operator Gina Young defies gender stereotypes as the only female in an elected position.
  NFAAC, or National Franchisee Advertising Advisory Council, is Dickey’s elected council of six Owner/Operators who make system-wide decisions on everything from advertising strategy to limited time
  offers.

  Young started her barbecue career in 2012, when she opened her first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Olympia, Washington. Previously a stay-at-home mom with no restaurant experience, Young benefitted from
  the extensive training support from day one. She hired her brother Rob Williams, a volunteer fire fighter, to be her general manager, and now has a very successful store.

  In 2015 Young was nominated for the position in NFAAC. Her region consists of every store on the West Coast, and every Owner/Operator casts a vote. She was elected by a landslide and began the
