Dickey’s Barbecue Pit Supports First Responders at Dallas Library

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting all of us. It is hitting our homeless neighbors very hard. As services are limited and donations are down, many shelters and non-profits are having to get by with far less than normal.
Dickey's Barbecue Pit owner/operator, Ted Barrans of Bonney Lake, WA, along with his son, Chris, are investing in their community by doing a 2-for-1 GoFundMe page to raise money to feed the homeless, support this local restaurant and all its employees.&nbsp;
The funds raised from this fundraiser will help make sure the homeless receive a fantastic hot meal at the Tacoma Rescue Mission.&nbsp;

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit: Feeding Homeless & Supporting Local Restaurants

Snohomish County restaurant owners have faced one challenge after another during the coronavirus shutdown.
Gov. Jay Inslee restricted bars and restaurants to takeout, drive-thru and delivery services to slow the spread of COVID-19. Sit-down dining is prohibited through at least April 6, following Inslee’s stay-at-home order Monday.
Adapting to the restrictions was easy enough for Chad Manivanh, owner of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Everett. His drive-thru, along with partnerships with Uber Eats and DoorDash, made the transition relatively seamless. He also offers curbside pickup and contact-less delivery.
But the quickly changing nature of the crisis hasn’t given him enough time to consider whether third-party delivery is worth the cost. Manivanh, of Lynnwood, said the online ordering platforms’ fees are eating up his profits.
“At the end of the week, we’ll analyze the data to see if it’s worth continuing or if it would be better to shut our doors,” Manivanh said. “Just by having third-party delivery, it’s not enough to cover our costs.”
Manivanh said Dickey’s has lost customers who work at Boeing, 5 miles to the north. In an attempt to compensate, Dickey’s has cut some menu prices — the pulled pork sandwich, formerly $6.95, is now $3. Also, kids eat free on Sunday.
He said the only thing keeping them in business is the community’s support.
“That has been a blessing for us,” he said. “They want to see us stay open.”

In menu dishes featuring barbecue sauces, among the quickest growing are boneless chicken wings (up 32 percent), chicken wings (up 13 percent), barbecue pizza (up 13 percent) and bacon burgers (up 4 percent).
People who follow diet trends such as the Keto diet are gravitating toward grilled, fire and roasted cooking processes, says Phil Butler, vice president of company stores and culinary at Dickey's Barbecue Restaurant, based in Dallas. In turn, hickory-smoked, <a href="https://www.dickeys.com/menu/about-our-food">antibiotic-free chicken breasts have been popular for Dickey's 500 locations</a> &nbsp;along with hickory-smoked turkey sandwiches. On the other hand, fried chicken items still remain popular too.
As a Texas barbecue operator, brisket remains the big seller for Dickey's. The chain continues to innovate, though, with two new sandwiches, the 'Cueban, a citrus pulled pork with jalapeno cheddar sausage, mustard and pickles, along with the Double Dip, sliced smoked brisket, caramelized smoked onions, cheddar cheese and a smoked beef au jus.
